Video Recordings

The key feature of PlaytestCloud is the ability to see your game through the eyes of your target audience – before launching your game. We achieve this by using our playtesting software, which records both on-screen gameplay and what players say while playing (think-aloud testing). Below you will find information on how we record our playtest videos as well as answers to the most commonly asked questions.

How does PlaytestCloud record the gameplay?
How does PlaytestCloud record the gameplay?

We developed a special software that guides players through a playtest and records the game and the player’s spoken thoughts & feedback.

Gameplay and feedback recording is possible for both iOS and Android.

Recording touches is also possible on both platforms, but may require a small integration into your game in certain situations. Read more about touch recording here.

Before our players start your game, they will also see a screen with instructions that walk them through the tasks they have to accomplish for this specific playtest.

Does PlaytestCloud show where players touch the screen?
Does PlaytestCloud show where players touch the screen?

Yes, using our touch indicators we display where players touch the screen throughout their gameplay, delivering insights into how they actually play your game.

Touch recording is automatically available on:

  • Android: Builds uploaded via APK or AAB files

  • iOS: Builds shared via TestFlight, with SDK integration

Not available on:

  • Android: Builds shared via Google Play

  • iOS: Builds shared via TestFlight with no SDK, or through the App Store

Touch indicators are enabled automatically for Android when you upload your build and, as seen above, can be added to iOS builds distributed through TestFlight through a small SDK.

Is there a performance impact?
Is there a performance impact?

We carefully optimized our video recording software to work well with all types of games, resulting in a minimal impact on the gameplay performance.

Sometimes there might be slowdowns in the recorded videos though, as the recording runs with a lower priority than your game code. So it might drop some frames during resource-intensive sequences of your game. This will only affect the video recording. We do our best to keep the gameplay smooth even in such situations.

Because the video is being uploaded in the background while the game is running, players with slower internet connections may see slightly slower download speeds in cases where the game downloads additional content.
